Loads of acts and entertainment at this year’s free Coogee Live weekend

More creativity, connection, culture, cooking and kids activities have been announced for Coogee Live, a free event held on 7 and 8 March along Coogee Beach.

Spanning 1.5 kilometres along Coogee Beach Reserve, Coogee Beach and Omeo Reserve, friends, families, young and old can find entertainment, interaction or an activity to suit.

City of Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett said that Coogee Live has a diverse and interactive program.

“Coogee Live has something for everyone – from lawn games to cooking classes, face painting to urban farming workshops, Indigenous performances and contemporary dance plus live music, acrobatics, magic, mermaids and more,” the Mayor said.

“With over 80 activations along the beach from North Coogee to Coogee Beach Reserve, Coogee Live is set to really bring the area to life and the City of Cockburn is delighted to make it totally free and accessible to everyone.”

In the lead up to Coogee Live 2020, artist Lewis Horne will team up with the Cockburn Youth Centre to mentor youth and together they will design and build a life-size ‘pin-wall’ for festival goers to interact with. The collaboration provides the group with an opportunity for creative input, skills building and problem solving throughout the project build and the final piece will return to the Cockburn Youth Centre and remain on display.

When the school year starts, the crew from Breakin’ Traditions will be recruiting two schools to join a course and start breakdancing rehearsals before bringing both schools together to perform at the LiveLighter Community Hub cinema stage on both days. So, tie on a bandanna and grab your imaginary sword, it’s time to set sail on the high seas of your imaginations. Will you sneak past the Governors or dispatch zombies with pirate spinjitsu? The choice be yours me hearties.

Pre-booking every hour on the hour and walk ups welcome on the half-hour, each 30-minute workshop covers a quick intro into paddle boarding and some SUP techniques.
