Helping the community comes in many ways and the team at Bunnings Warehouse in Belmont have helped to bring the outdoors in for residents and staff at a local not-for-profit aged care home.
The horticultural staff have hand selected a range of indoor plants for the communal areas at Mercy Place Lathlain, which they have subsequently donated to the home for the enjoyment of residents, staff and visitors.
Mercy Place Lathlain Service Manager, Mark Flores, said that staff members recently approached Bunnings to see if they could help give the home’s common areas a boost by advising on a range of plants suitable for Mercy Place Lathlain.
“Research has shown that smell and touch sensations promote concentration and alertness, and plants have also been shown to increase mood, productivity, concentration and creativity, all of which are desirable qualities that we wanted to bring to our residents through increasing nature inside our home,” Mr Flores says.
“Most of us know instinctively that being close to greenery makes us feel more at ease with our surroundings, and we experience less stress when there are plants around us, which we believe is particularly important for our residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
“We are all delighted with the new plants, which the team at Bunnings carefully selected, and we are very thankful to everyone involved at the Belmont store for helping us to create a little green haven at our home.”
