It’s time to plan a road trip to Carnarvon…

Over the winter months Carnarvon in Western Australia will be holding a plethora of events. From desert racing motor bikes, a fishing competition for recreational fishers with a whopping $25,000 in prize money, country horse racing and the food festival which celebrates the produce of the area there is something for everyone. A highlight will be the cocktail party which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon landing which will be held in July at the space museum. Doorawarrah Station Desert Race 2019

Join 600 plus riders for this unique event – the Doorawarrah Station Desert Race 2019. Family and friends will join in the fun as riders tackle 300km of Gascoyne River and Doorawarrah Station tracks. One of the world’s ‘must-do’ desert races, the event has grown to become a real highpoint of the adventure and motorbiking calendar.

Carnar-Fin Fishing Competition

Join keen recreational anglers for Carnar-Fin Fishing Competition, an annual fishing competition held in the last week of May for the past 27 years. With a generous prize pool exceeding $25,000 worth of prizes awarded to the highest catch in each category, expect high drama and plenty of friendly competitiveness between locals and visiting fishermen and women. Even the tiddlers can get in on the action; there’s a kids fishing comp too.

When – Sunday 26 May from 7 to 8pm for briefing, event begins Monday 27 May from 6am within 50 nautical miles of Carnarvon until weigh-in on 2 June.

Carnarvon Race Club 

The Carnarvon Race season gallops into action from May to September every year, and the Carnarvon Cup is a real high point. WA Fashions on the Field Ladies Day sees WA’s finest strutting their stuff as fashion-forward racing fans enjoy all the fun of a glamorous day on the social calendar. There’s a free local bus service that runs from accommodation in town to take you to and from the races.

This Life Music Festival 

This Life Music Festival will bring six stars of country, rock and pop who will perform over six hours, right in the heart of Carnarvon. Get ready to some epic live music sets from a collection of true blue stars. Catch Rai Thistlethwayte, Adam Harvey, Billy Joel Tribute (with Anthony Mara), Proud Mary, Credence Clear Revival Tribute band and Bon But Not Forgotten and enjoy the festival vibes as the sun goes down.

50 Years of memories at the Space Museum

The countdown is on to Saturday 20 July at 7pm when the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum hosts a cocktail party under this BIG Dish to celebrate 50 Years since the moon landing.  TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW and selling fast. The evening will include ex-trackers speaking about their time at the #OTCDish, local band Black Jacks singing all the favourite hits from 1960s and delicious food.

Gascoyne Food Festival

If you are keen to sample as much of the region’s amazing produce while you’re on holiday then time your visit to coincide with the Gascoyne Food Festival, a three-day event celebrating everything from fresh seafood to juicy mangoes. Rub shoulders with Perth’s finest chefs as they showcase the Gascoyne’s produce during the highly anticipated Long Table Lunch and other pop-up events. Local restaurants and cafes get in on the act too, all celebrating what’s best about the region’s food producers and farmers.
