Three women artists combine for a refreshing look at our environment

THEY are three women who can’t stop painting, combining for a new exhibition after previous shows in Kalamunda and City Beach.

Willemina Foeken, Shirley Winstanley and Georgia Efford will present Our Lives, Our Environments, Our Interpretations for the Western Australian Women Artists exhibition at the Whiteley Fishbowl Gallery in Gosnells next month.

Willemina Foeken is an artist and art teacher, having taught art at all levels from primary school to TAFE and also in her own studio where she still teaches. She has exhibited widely in WA, Victoria, NSW, New York and the Netherlands.

Her preferred subjects are people and still life in various media. While supervising the exhibition, Willhemina will be working on portraits and still life in pastels.

People will be able to have their portrait drawn for $30 for a half-hour drawing.

Shirley Winstanley at work

Shirley Winstanley is self taught. She loves colour and “chasing shadows.” She has been an exchange artist to Italy, has had paintings in a local, full-length movie and works in collections in Australia and overseas. She holds workshops in drawing and painting.

Georgia Efford loves to paint

Georgia Efford has been a specialist art teacher and a university lecturer in art history, painting and drawing all through her travels and absorbing what many cultures offered. She has travelled in Asia, Europe and Africa and also has much experience in organic gardening and herbal crafts.

She says the  past five years feel like a flowering through oil painting, working on the theme “nature and time.”

“As Gosnells City Council has a great little gallery at no rental cost, we thought this was a wonderful opportunity to sell works at much lower prices than usual,” Willemina said. “We will be aiming at the Christmas market with unframed A4 works starting from $50 each, and many small framed works for only a few hundred dollars.

“There will be some major works as well. This is a chance to get quality work from experienced artists at affordable prices.”

The exhibition, Our Lives, Our Environments, Our Interpretations runs at Whitely Fishbowl Gallery, The Agents building, 2232D Albany Highway, Gosnells, from November 11-23, Mon-Fri 10am-4pm, Saturday 10am-1pm, Sunday 1pm-4pm.
