Closed: Delight in the 1950s with Woody Allen’s Wonder Wheel

Four lives intertwine amid the hustle and bustle of 1950s Coney Island in Wonder Wheel, a searing tale of passion and betrayal.

Kate Winslet stars as Ginny, an emotionally volatile former actress now working as a waitress in a clam bar off the boardwalk.

Jim Belushi is Humpty, Ginny’s rough-hewn carousel operator husband.

Their lives are upended with the arrival of Carolina (Juno Temple), Humpty’s long-estranged daughter, who is on the run from gangsters and looking for a place to hide.

And then, there’s Mickey (Justin Timberlake), a handsome young lifeguard who dreams of becoming a playwright.

Writer/director Woody Allen re-unites with master cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, saturating Wonder Wheel with colour and light to create a lush, visual delight.

Channelling Allen’s signature wit and pathos, Kate Winslet turns in a powerhouse performance in the lead, steering us through the soaring highs and tragic lows of Ginny, an unforgettable character and the unwitting anti-hero of her own story.
