WIN: By a Thread

Following sold-out shows on their recent tours to the US, China and New Zealand, One Fell Swoop Circus return to FRINGE WORLD with By A Thread, 21 January to 9 February, bringing with them their trademark 30 metres of white rope and the raw strength of seven dynamic acrobats who redefine aerial acrobatics.

By A Thread is an award-winning mesmerising performance that offers audiences rich visuals of inventive acrobatics as the cast manipulate and suspend their bodies without the assistance of rigging and hardware. Rather, the performers engage in the ultimate trust exercise, depending solely on the strength of other ensemble members.

Co-directed by Charice Rust and Jonathan Morgan, the show examines the relationship between trust and risk in an innovative aerial apparatus — the rope acts as a metaphor of the trust necessary in any relationship, acrobatic or otherwise.

“We wanted to produce a show that combines dynamic acrobatic skills and physical theatre in a choreographed exploration of tension – physical, emotional and relational,” Charice Rust said.

Charice Rust, co-director and performer, says One Fell Swoop Circus are thrilled to be performing again for the adventurous Perth audiences who appreciate and engage in the arts so deeply and who have been so incredibly supportive of their work previously.

“Perth Fringe World is a special place for us, it really was the launchpad for a series of successful tours around Australia, to the US, New Zealand and even China, so we are really looking forward to bringing the show back to WA!” she said.

The ensemble boasts cutting-edge techniques with the seven performers having completed intense physical training at the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA), Australia’s elite-level circus training institute, and in China at the Beijing Acrobatic School.

“While risk is always present in circus, so is joy. There’s something incredibly exhilarating and fun about using our bodies in creative and jaw-dropping ways,” Charice Rust said.

“Circus is such a powerful art form because what you see is exactly what you get – no smoke and mirrors!” she said.

By A Thread is a must-see 50-minute show that challenges both the audience and performers, as the One Fell Swoop Circus production defies the capability of the human body.
