New film celebrates Chekhov’s most famous play
A new film scheduled for release in October The Seagull is adapted from Chekhov’s most famous play about obsession, fame, art and love. It is both comic and heartbreaking.
Set in the Russian countryside at the end of the 19th century, the film concentrates on a group of friends who gather at a lush summer estate. Their mismatched passions along with a tragic event change their lives forever.
The story begins when a famous actress Irina (Annette Bening) brings her younger lover Boris (Corey Stoll) to the family’s country home for a weekend. When Boris becomes obsessed with Irina’s son’s lover Nina (Saoirse Ronan), all goes awry.
In cinemas 4 October.
