Enjoying a staycation at the jewel in Perth’s crown

WHEN Crown Towers opened just over a year ago the Perth hotel scene was changed for the better.

I was keen to ‘have a go’ and stay at the Towers after a few of my friends had enjoyed staycations over summer. One stayed for Christmas, another for the Australia Day long weekend and both raved about the hospitality.

To say I was a little excited about my two-night staycation on a Friday and Saturday night at the Towers was an understatement.

I like the word staycation – it refers to having a mini break somewhere in the city in which you live.

My partner and I had an event to attend on the Saturday in the Grand Ballroom, so we thought it would be perfect to enjoy a mini break and stay on the Friday night.

On check-in, the concierge told us that 90 per cent of the people that stayed at the Towers were from WA and now we understand why.

It’s the perfect place to have a fun-filled weekend and really make the most of the facilities on offer at Crown.

We checked in at 3pm into a King room which had magnificent views of the city. Looking out the window we just ‘ooed’ and ‘ahhed’ and both commented that we live in the best city in the world.

Premier King Room

The room’s focus is all about the view, with a divine bed facing the floor to ceiling windows, it allows you to lie back and soak up what has to be the best view of Perth.

There’s a chaise longue by the window, a huge television set that can be extended, a table and chairs and the room design maximises everything around the view. The mini bar, dressing room and bathroom are located behind the bed.

The mini bar comes with a coffee machine and there’s a selection of quality snacks and drinks, everything you need to make the most of your stay and room service is a press of a button or phone call away.

Personally, I always judge a hotel room by its bathroom and this one met my every expectation.

Beautifully appointed with a cream stone bath it is one of the best I have ever seen in a hotel. Big white fluffy towels, a separate toilet cubicle and shower recess with rain shower head and two sinks just oozed luxury.

The quality consumables in the bathroom just add that extra pizazz, it’s these little things in a hotel that really add to my enjoyment.

We relaxed for a couple of hours and then went to dinner at Epicurean to try out Perth’s largest buffet.

There is something for everyone at the buffet and we left having given it our best shot to try as much as we could from the round the world feast.

When we returned to the room, the turn down service had been, our slippers were by our bed and chocolates were on our pillow.

We treated ourselves to an in-room movie and about 10pm I heard the pop of fireworks and using my bedside tablet for the room controls opened the electronic curtains to enjoy a stunning fireworks display celebrating Chinese New Year from Gloucester Park.

We slept so well that we didn’t wake up until the knock at the door at 9.40am with the in-room breakfast.

After breakfast it was time to enjoy the pool area which is one of the highlights of a summer stay. Sunbeds surround the many sections of the pool and drinks and food are ordered with a quick flick of your flag.

After basking by the pool, we headed to the Crystal Club lounge for afternoon tea before it was time to get ready for the ball.

The Crystal Club offers guests breakfast, afternoon tea, cocktails and canapes in the evening and is a worthwhile addition to a stay.

Crown Towers – Crystal Club

We chatted to quite a few people in the club who were there celebrating milestone moments.

One lady told me that she had everything she could possibly need, so celebrating her 70th birthday with her family and staying at Crown was the perfect experience for her.

Our ball started at 6pm and we didn’t get to experience the cocktails and canapes but returned for breakfast the next morning, enjoying the superb views and delicious food.

The room, the service, the food (especially the food) is unbeatable including the dinner in the ballroom, we couldn’t fault anything.

All good things must come to an end and my only complaint was that time went far too quickly and we had to leave.
