Challenge your perception of ballet as West Australian Ballet takes residency in the heart of Northbridge for their contemporary mainstage season of State: Contemporary Vision.
Live at the State Theatre Centre of WA for one week only, the upcoming triple bill features two World premieres and an exhilarating collaboration with Co3 Contemporary Dance Company.

After receiving rave reviews for his Ballet at the Quarry in 2022 and 2023, Polish choreographer Robert Bondara returns to West Australian Ballet to create a new piece on the dancers of West Australian Ballet. Titled Nothing Twice, the work is inspired by a Wiesława Szymborska poem of the same name and explores the concept of time.
In a powerful collaboration with Co3 Contemporary Dance, Founding Artistic Director Raewyn Hill will present CARNIVALE.6. Inspired by Spanish bullfighting and the dancing plague of 1518, this relentless and frenzied work will be performed by an ensemble of Co3 and West Australian Ballet dancers. Described as a “feverish gem”, CARNIVALE.6 showcases the evolution since its debut in 2012 with The Australian Ballet to subsequent presentations by Co3, Dancenorth, New Zealand School of Dance, LINK Dance Company, and a recent showcase at Parliament House.
State will also feature an exciting new work from internationally acclaimed Perth-born choreographer James O’Hara. Drawing on his more than two decades of experience in the industry, James’ piece will be an ever-evolving work set to a new composition from sound designer James Hazel.
