WA’s winter food celebration

Discover a culinary treasure trove in Western Australia, where ingredients boast quality and flavour that’s simply unparalleled. In a celebration of our exceptional, world-class produce, more than 45 venues statewide will be showcasing WA-inspired gastronomic creations all through the month of June.

Plating Up WA runs for 30 days in June and showcases special dishes loaded with Western Australia’s best seasonal ingredients, available at locations all over the State, thanks to the campaign initiated by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s Buy West Eat Best program.

Now in its sixth year, Western Australia’s food, beverage, foodservice and hospitality industries are using their skills to plate up dishes that honour the amazing  food and beverages we have on offer. Options will vary from casual to fine dining, bar snacks to wineries, pubs and taverns, desirable desserts to gorgeous grazing boards.  Diners will find mouth-watering options to suit both their tastes and budgets.

Melissa Worthington, program manager Buy West Eat Best said: “The Buy West Eat Best team are thrilled to be running Plating Up WA for the sixth year. Previous campaigns have provided a significant boost to local food service and hospitality during what has been a challenging time, supporting over 200 venues that have taken part to date.”

“Equally the campaign supports our local producers keen to introduce their ingredients to chefs; several dishes to be plated up have this year been selected from the programs ‘ingredient register’ or shopping list for inspiration and venue consideration. We can’t wait to share the latest round of venues and dishes with everyone as the 2024 campaign launches today.” said Melissa.

Plating Up WA is calling on local food enthusiasts to reserve their spot at participating venues, where they can savour a standout Western Australian dish that brilliantly showcases the state’s splendid winter ingredients. From breakfast to dinner, chefs are artfully curating meals that not only delight the palate but also celebrate the dedication of our local suppliers and produce.

The campaign delivery is supported and shaped directly by the sector, lead by this year’s chef liaison role, Scott Bridger, chef and co-owner of Bib and Tucker, “Being asked to be a chef representative for the Plating Up WA campaign is a honour, I’m looking forward to being the conduit between industry and the campaign to help bring the stunning West Australian produce to life for winter diners in 2024.”

”Western Australia has some of the most passionate producers and restaurants in Australia. Our clean air,  pristine oceans and lucious pastures means we have amazing produce all year round. Buy West Eat Best continues to celebrate it all, its enthusiasm towards keeping our industries sustainable and giving recognition to producers and venues big or small gives me great pleasure to work with, and be a part of their team,” said Scott.

In 2023, the Plating Up WA website doubled its visitation with nearly 30,000 page views, with the venue page achieving nearly 6,000 visits, venues also achieved outbound clicks of up to 215 to their websites. This year’s campaign will again be strongly promoted through print, digital and social media channels with supporting collateral showing the diversity of Western Australian landscapes and dishes reflecting the range of ingredients that venues will be offering.
