With only a couple of days to go of the Jewish International Film Festival don’t miss some amazing and diverse films from around the world.
Some of the films coming up include The History of Love adapted from Nicole Krauss’ novel, starring Gemma Arterton, Derek Jacobi and Elliott Gould. New York, the 21st century. Leo, an old Polish Jewish immigrant, lives with the memory of the great love of his life. Despite his painful history, he cheerfully navigates life’s ups and downs with indefatigable, crazy humor, alongside his best friend Bruno. Across town, in Brooklyn, teenage Alma is determined to find the ideal man for her mother to remarry. Always in control, she is staggered to find herself falling for her handsome classmate Misha, and discovering love for the first time. Nothing seems to link old Leo and young Alma. And yet… From Poland in the 1930s to Ellis Island; from Chile to Central Park, the manuscript of “the most loved woman in the world” will travel through time to unite their destinies.
Another stand out film is Bombshell:The Hedy Lamarr Story which will be screening on Saturday 18, November at 2pm. This eye-opening documentary of Hedy’s life from being known as the world’s most beautiful woman and shows another side to her that helped invent technology that has now made Wifi and Bluetooth possible today.
Closing the Festival will be The Rebel in the Rye, which will be screening on Sunday 19, November at 7pm. Rebel in the Rye stars Kevin Spacey and Nicholas Hoult and follows the fascinating story of the infamously-reclusive author JD Salinger. We follow Salinger’s life from his Jewish upbringing, to his WWII service and finally to the completion of his iconic novel The Catcher in the Rye.
