With Fire in her Heart: The Edith Cowan Story
In 2021 it will be 100 years since Edith Cowan became the first woman elected to Parliament in Australia when she became the Member for West Perth in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. The achievements of this social reformer, who campaigned for the rights and welfare of women and children, are celebrated in a new play, With Fire in Her Heart: The Edith Cowan Story.
Adapted from a screenplay by writer Trevor Todd, and directed by WAAPA lecturer Dr Gabrielle Metcalf, it is performed as part of Fringe World at Girls School on selected dates from 27 January to 7 February 2021.

The Rickie Lee Jones Story
Sylvia Cornes (Françoise and Friends, Fringe World 2020) presents We Belong(ed) Together – the Rickie Lee Jones Story at Fringe World 2021. A tribute to the fascinating life and music of American jazz/pop/blues singer Rickie Lee Jones.
Cornes’ debut Fringe World 2020 show Françoise and Friends drew her audience into the vibrant world of 1960s French Pop and the music of Françoise Hardy. Reviewers described the show as a ‘giddy, vibrant, brilliant evening of entertainment’ (Fringe Feed) and ‘a must see’ (Stage Whispers).

Building on the success of Jewish-ish, Kosher Bacon and his critically acclaimed shows 50/50 and Getting Better, which chronicled his diagnosis with testicular cancer, Michael is back in Perth to deliver more of his uniquely dark observations and hilarious stories.
Surviving cancer and sharing that experience on stage really changed Shafar’s philosophy on comedy. 110% sees Shafar in the same vein – raw and honest – talking about living in lockdown, the perils of skinny jeans and, of course, bagels.

The Benjamins War of the Words
Sex and religion clash in a hilarious comedy titled ‘War of the Words’ when Rob Benjamin and Benjamin Kay join forces to share their comedy performance and poetry routines. Rob’s family challenged him to undertake a stand-up comedy routine on a public stage at the Brisbane Hotel to usher in his 80th birthday. He amazed everyone in a stunning performance which drew an overwhelming audience response. Now in his 84th year, he has again accepted the family challenge to entertain crowds by performing in Fringe World Festival 2021.
The audience is guaranteed a routine full of hilarious outrageous sexual and blasphemous revelations which will have everyone rocking in their seats. Backing him up is Ben’s impressive slam poetry styled word collections. Rob is almost certainly the oldest person to perform as a Fringe entertainer.

Comedy Hypnotist Matt Hale – Bonkers!
The ultimate antidote to the year 2020, with comedy hypnotist Matt Hale’s brand-new Fringe World show – BONKERS.
Matt Hale is a sell-out, award-winning and headlining Fringe artist returning in 2021 for his sixth Fringe World festival. With 34 family-friendly performances from 15 January to 14 February, BONKERS can be seen across five Fringe venues including Perth Girl’s School, Cirque du Cockburn, Rendezvous Scarborough, Metro City and Redmond Theatre Joondalup.
“BONKERS is 60 minutes of pure fun, laughs and positivity,” says Matt. “After the last 12 months I was inspired to develop a show that promised the ultimate entertainment escape. It’s a hypnosis show with a party vibe – it has music, celebration, movement and excitement,” he said.
Ballads, Banksias and Beauty
From the heart of the South West, drawn from the land and shaped by the hands of four world-class musicians, comes a multi-sensory musical experience. Grammy award-winning Lucky Oceans is joined by multiple FRINGE WORLD Festival award winner Jessie Gordon, Bell award recipient Ben Vanderwal and triple WAMI award winner Russell Holmes.
This powerhouse quartet sculpt a wall of sound with pedal steel, piano, haunting vocals, drums, acoustic guitar and electronic soundscapes. The band create heartfelt, glorious and achingly beautiful arrangements of classic Australian songs performed against a backdrop of images of the West Australian landscape.
