On the hunt: A truffle weekend break

There’s something truly special about winter in WA’s Southern Forests – misty mornings, crackling fires, peaceful stillness, and the unmistakable lure of fresh truffle waiting to be unearthed.

This July, join a Matters of Taste food tour for a weekend escape that’s all about slowing down and enjoying the good things in life. They’re taken care of everything and teamed up with some of the region’s finest growers and cooks to create a one-of-a-kind experience you won’t find anywhere else.

Your hosts, Anthony and Tracey Cotterell, bring decades of food and travel experience. Together they lead immersive WA tours that connect people to place and provenance.

Anthony will be your trusty driver, guiding the group from city limits to forest backroads and home again. Along the way, stop for a home-cooked lunch at a Bridgetown farm before heading into the heart of truffle country.

Enjoy hunting for truffle in the forest

A private hunt for prized black Perigord truffles awaits, where visitos will meet the grower and dog handler on the very property where Manjimup truffle production started.

During the afternoon, Tracey will share how simple it is to cook with truffle – no fuss, just flavour. You’ll also learn how truffles are graded and prepared to sell across the world.

Saturday night features generous truffle-rich dishes crafted by David Coomer, served at a relaxed candlelit event. The food is perfectly matched with small-batch, single-vineyard wines from Below & Above.

Expect memorable food, and an opportunity to socialise amongst a truly good crowd.

After breakfast on Sunday, the tour calls in on a talented young baker who turns imperfect local produce into the clever and delicious creations. His sourdough will be warm from the oven – enjoy a chat, a taste, and maybe a loaf to take home.

With real conversations, fireside feasts, and hands-on experiences, this is a winter escape not to be missed. There’s only one tour only on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27 to Manjimup, so tell friends and jump online to book at www.mattersoftaste.com.au
