Albany’s coastline will come alive this March with the inaugural Lighting the Sound festival, a nine-night celebration of art, light, and landscape presented by FORM.
The centrepiece of the event is a monumental light installation by acclaimed Finnish artist Kari Kola, whose work will transform the city’s natural surroundings into a glowing, immersive experience.
Kola, internationally recognised for his large-scale light artworks, will use the contours of Albany’s coastline as his canvas, blending colour, movement, and sound to create a powerful dialogue between art and nature. The installation will stretch across the waterfront, inviting visitors to experience the Southern Ocean in a completely new light.
As FORM’s first Lighting the Sound festival, the event marks a major milestone in the organisation’s mission to bring world-class creative experiences to regional Western Australia.
Thousands of visitors are expected to attend, with the festival set to boost local tourism and showcase Albany’s growing cultural energy.
FORM’s creative director described the festival as “a celebration of connection — between people, place, and the power of light to transform how we see the world.”
Book now to experience this event from 6pm to 9pm Friday March 13 to Sunday March 15, Friday March 20 to Sunday March 22 and Friday March 27 to Sunday March 29.
The recommend viewing spots are Anzac Peace Park, Town Centre and town side of the harbour.
