History, Humour and Handlebars

A former WA Minister is swapping politics for pedals as part of a brand-new tourism experience that puts a theatrical twist on history — and e-bikes. Magical Mandurah with the Minister is a unique guided e-bike tour, operated by The Bike Kiosk, and led by none other than former Minister for Culture and the Arts, known to many as ‘the singing Minister’, David Templeman, in full theatrical flight.

Part comedy show, part history lesson, and part outdoor adventure, the 90-minute ride takes guests on a rollicking journey through Mandurah’s iconic foreshore and city centre — all the way to one of the renowned Giants of Mandurah sculptures.

With Templeman appearing in a rotating cast of quirky, costumed characters, the tour explores Mandurah’s rich past through laughter, storytelling and spontaneous street theatre. Riders are rewarded at journey’s end with a seafood feast at local favourite Cicerello’s — and the opportunity to lunch with the Minister himself.

The tour was developed by The Bike Kiosk, Mandurah’s premier e-bike and e-scooter hire and tour operator, in partnership with Templeman, a long-time Mandurah resident and performer, and with support from the City of Mandurah’s City Centre Business Incentive Program.

“This is Mandurah as you’ve never seen it before — through the eyes of a wannabe Thespian, a local, and yes, an ex-politician,” said Templeman. “We want people to laugh, learn and fall in love with this place on two wheels.”

Not just an entertaining adventure, riding an e-bike provides cardiovascular exercise, improves muscle strength and joint mobility, supports weight management, reduces stress, and boosts overall mental well-being—all with lower impact on joints than traditional cycling, making it accessible for a wider range of fitness levels.

The Bike Kiosk co-owner, Natalee Fuhrmann, added: “We have had our eye on Dave to lead one of our e-bike tours for quite some time, so we are stoked to have him and all his personalities onboard. We’ve had a lot of success with our various Giants tours so we hope this quirky and fun tour will boost local tourism, celebrate Mandurah’s heritage, and introduce non-riders and occasional riders to the wonders of eBike riding, all whilst showcasing the city’s vibrant waterfront.”

A portion of every ticket supports the Mandurah Historical Society, helping preserve the stories and places that inspired the tour.
