Perth’s very own BOONJI Spaceman will be on show for the next 12 months. The highly anticipated, seven-metre-tall Spaceman sculpture has taken up residence in Stirling Gardens near Council House, for locals and visitors alike to enjoy.
The monumental artwork was accepted by the City of Perth Council as a gift from US artist Brendan Murphy, courtesy of Gullotti Galleries.
City of Perth Deputy Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds said the larger-than-life BOONJI Spaceman pays homage to Perth’s City of Light origin story.
“Perth became known as the City of Light following American astronaut John Glenn’s historic triple orbit of Earth in 1962, during which Perth residents and businesses left on their lights, shone torches to the sky and lit lanterns to make the city visible in space.

“BOONJI Spaceman is a tribute to our unique story and will no doubt become another must-see piece in the City of Light,” Cr Reynolds said.
“Like other spaceman artworks in New York, London, Washington D.C. ‘The Kennedy Center’, Riyadh, Mallorca and Oslo, BOONJI Spaceman is expected to become a major attraction, drawing both locals and visitors to stop, take a look and grab a ‘selfie’.
“We’re inviting everyone to head into the City and marvel at the BOONJI Spaceman, and while you’re here take a stroll and keep an eye out for our other magnificent artworks.
“The City has an incredible art collection which includes almost 100 works, meaning you’re likely to encounter a City of Perth public artwork every 100 metres.”
BOONJI Spaceman artist, Brendan Murphy said that each BOONJI Spaceman is uniquely sculpted to reflect its setting, and the Perth installation is no exception – designed to inspire wonder, spark imagination, and enrich the city’s cultural fabric with a symbol of limitless potential.
“Perth instantly came to mind as the perfect home for this work, with its vibrant energy, forward-thinking spirit, and deep appreciation for the arts,” Brendan Murphy said.

The statue weighs 1,365kg and is made from carbon fibre and steel with a silver-based chrome finish. |
