FamilyHistoryWA (FHWA) is on the case in August, bringing both novice and seasoned sleuths into the heart of family tree investigations, during Family History Month.
The scene is set for an enlightening FHWA ‘Sleuthing your Family Tree’ Seminar to be held at the State Library of Western Australia, Perth, for Tuesday, August 13th. Participants will don their detective hats and dive into the latest and most advanced techniques in the pursuit of their ancestral quests.
Presentations will cover both traditional and advanced research techniques, and innovations in family history research that can lead to significant discoveries and productive results. The Seminar also offers a prime opportunity to get the lowdown on the most current news in DNA techniques and their applications in context with genealogical research.
Participants will follow the footsteps of a family historian’s journey, drawing them into the intrigue of pursuing leads and clues to uncover mysteries and fill the gaps in their ancestors’ past. The one day Seminar will finish with a Q&A session with seasoned geologists, where participants might just get the lead that breaks through a particular research block.
Hot on the heels of the Seminar, FHWA will host ‘Open Days’ at the Research Centre in Bayswater, from August 16 – 19, providing free admission for families and friends to explore and engage in some personal sleuthing.
Experienced historian volunteers will be available to assist with personal research and become familiar with the wide range of research equipment, resources and services. Presentation topics include an introduction on how to get started on research, a talk on DNA testing and how it applies to ancestral studies, and a selection of special interest group meetings with guest speakers, problem solving and discovery sharing.
For the inquisitive, or more established ancestral story hunters, these events promise to sharpen your research skills and enhance your investigative toolkit. A perfect occasion to research historical connections with family or friends during Family History Month.
