Piastri donates helmet for children’s charity

Australian Formula 1 McLaren driver Oscar Piastri signed and donated his race-worn helmet worn from the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix to raise money for My Room Children’s Cancer Charity.

The helmet sold for A$107,000 at auction via F1 Authentics, with all proceeds being donated to the charity.

Piastri was announced as an ambassador for My Room Children’s Cancer Charity earlier this year and spent time visiting sick children in hospital during the F1 season summer break in August.

My Room Children’s Cancer Charity a volunteer-led Australian organisation supporting families impacted by cancer.

This is one of only a handful of helmets that Piastri has made available to the public thus far in his career.

Piastri is currently leading the F1 World Drivers Championship, but has his McLaren team mate Lando Norris just 14 points behind and Red Bull driver and four-time world champion Max Verstappen trailing by 40 points.

The drivers title fight is set to be hotly contested in the final five races of the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Australia’s last Formula 1 Champion was Alan Jones in 1980.

Piastri said the sale of his helmet generated a successful outcome for a special charity close to his heart.

“Thank you very much to everyone who has bid on and supported the auction for my 2024 Bahrain race helmet with F1 Authentics,” Piastri said.

“We’ve raised a huge amount of money for My Room Children’s Cancer Charity, which is a great cause.

“This is really going to make a difference to their projects and help everyone, so thank you once again.”

My Room Children’s Cancer Charity said the full amount raised will go towards its research to help bring hope to young patients and their loved ones.

“We are incredibly grateful to Oscar for donating such a remarkable piece of F1 history, and to F1 Authentics for their work behind the scenes in making this auction possible, said My Room Children’s Charity, CEO, Margaret Zita.

“The outstanding amount raised from the sale of the helmet will directly support the children and families My Room stands beside every day as they face the unimaginable.

This result will make a meaningful and lasting difference, bringing hope where it’s needed most.”
