Mid-career and established visual artists from across Australia are being invited to apply for a major new commission at Edith Cowan University’s (ECU) City Campus public gallery.
Applications are now open for the 2027 Copyright Agency Partnerships (CAP) exhibition, a national initiative that supports the creation of significant new work by leading contemporary artists in collaboration with major galleries and cultural organisations.
The selected artist will receive $80,000 in funding to develop and present a major exhibition at ECU Gallery from February 12 to May 7, 2027.
The funding includes artist fees and project development costs. ECU, in partnership with North Metropolitan TAFE, will also provide in-kind support valued at up to $8,000 for accommodation and access to studio facilities.
The opportunity is based at ECU’s new City Campus, located in the heart of Perth’s cultural precinct. The campus sits alongside some of Western Australia’s most prominent arts organisations, placing the exhibiting artist at the centre of the city’s creative community.
ECU Manager Art, Culture and Collections, Clothilde (Clo) Bullen OAM, said the partnership with Copyright Agency highlights ECU’s commitment to supporting contemporary creative practice in Australia.
“This partnership creates a significant opportunity for an artist to develop and present ambitious new work, with funding support,” Ms Bullen said.
Copyright Agency CEO Josephine Johnston said the CAP commission represents a career-defining opportunity for visual artists.
“This is a rare opportunity to work with ECU Gallery in Perth to create new work alongside an experienced and ambitious curatorial team,” Ms Johnston said.
“Through our Cultural Fund, Copyright Agency has developed an exceptional program for visual artists, partnering with the very best curators and galleries around the country.”
The CAP program, developed through the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund, brings together leading curators and galleries nationwide to present major commissions by mid-career and established artists working across all media.
Eligible applicants will have developed an independent body of work over several years or achieved significant recognition within their field.
Applications close at 1pm AEDT on March 16, 2026.
