Help young WA cancer survivors get back on track

For many families, surviving childhood cancer is just the beginning of another battle, helping children rebuild the education, confidence, and a future that treatment disrupted.

The Back on Track Foundation’s Family Getaway Raffle, running under the tagline “Win the Trip, Fund the Journey,” offers families the chance to win incredible holidays while funding this critical, but often overlooked, phase of recovery.

When a child undergoes cancer treatment, they can miss months or even years of school. It impacts everyone; siblings lose educational ground, parents struggle to maintain normal family life, and the entire family ecosystem faces disruption that can last long after treatment ends.

Kylie Dalton, Chief Executive Officer, Back on Track Foundation said: “Cancer doesn’t just change one child’s life. It shakes the whole family. Back on Track stands with siblings, parents, and survivors to rebuild what’s been lost. Every raffle ticket funds that rebuilding, one family at a time.”

“I’ve spoken with families from Esperance to Wyndham who’ve fought childhood cancer without the right educational support once treatment ends. Back on Track is here to change that. No matter your postcode, your child deserves a future.”

The raffle offers seven prizes valued up to $50,000, with the major prize featuring a week-long luxury Bali family escape including accommodation, flights for a family of four, and $5,000 spending money. Additional prizes include getaways to Margaret River’s Pullman Bunker Bay Resort, Broome’s Cable Beach Club, and a $5,000 home upgrade voucher. Every ticket purchased creates two journeys, yours to potential paradise, and their road back to educational success.

Back on Track is the first program of its kind in Western Australia, ensuring children who go through cancer treatment, and their siblings, don’t fall through educational cracks. The program provides tutoring, mentoring, advocacy, and emotional support, that stays with them for life.

“My son Jamie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at two and a half years old. During his three and a half years of treatment, Jamie missed all his formative school years, made worse by COVID isolation. It left a massive hole in Jamie’s education. Back on Track Foundation stepped up and stepped in. Having someone on your side who ‘gets it’ is the most amazing relief for any parent. Jamie now has the same chance that every Aussie kid should get.” – Nicky Mahy, Back on Track family

Children who were falling behind academically are now thriving, with many graduates pursuing careers in medicine, research, and other fields, proving that cancer does not have to define their future. Find out more at www.backontrack.org.au
