Australians are among the keenest travellers in the world with many of them finding themselves in far off places that harbour the most dangerous and infectious diseases.
The guest speaker at the November meeting of the Western Australian Self-Funded Retirees Association (WASFRA), Dr Nick Beeching, Emeritus Professor of Tropical and Infectious Diseases at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, will address this issue.
His presentation is entitled “Travellers’ tales – what to catch and where to catch it – how to come back the way you left – healthy.”
His light-hearted talk will cover the best ways to avoid getting the worst of the diseases that roam the globe. It will be well illustrated and will contain practical information, medical anecdotes and advice directed towards a non-medical trained audience.
The meeting will commence at 10am on Friday November 14. On this occasion it will open first with Dr Beeching’s presentation followed by the WASFR end-of-year celebration and a worthy meal.
Visitors are welcome to attend the meeting at no cost. Should they remain for the meal the cost will be $15. WASFR member’s cost will be a subsidised $10.
For catering purposes and to arrange payment, those remaining for the meal, visitor or member should contact Margaret Harris on 0417 991 947 at least one week prior to the event.
