RSLWA leads the way in veteran care with the reopening of ANZAC House.
Known as Veteran Central the $30 million purpose-built innovative facility has been designed to improve the delivery of health, advocacy, welfare and transition services to veterans and their families.
RSLWA President Mr Peter Aspinall said ANZAC House is much more than a building.
“It will be home to Veteran Central – an innovative and uniquely Western Australian concept identified to improve our capacity to offer proactive, comprehensive and complete veteran support services here in WA.”
Mr Aspinall said the State Government, through Lotterywest, and the Federal Government had provided significant funding towards the project, increasing the organisation’s capability to deliver a world-class facility.
“ANZAC House Veteran Central is like nothing else we’ve seen before. It will deliver the most comprehensive range of on-site, free services and amenities under the one roof, strengthening our ability to service the diverse needs of our veteran community.
“We are thrilled to confirm Veteran Central is already home to many veteran service providers. From general practice medical care to allied health services, a day surgery facility, psychological and mental health services, financial and employment support services, welfare and wellness services and programs, the depth of support care available to Veterans from Veteran Central is truly unrivalled.”
In addition to being the new home of RSLWA, the seven floor ANZAC House will also accommodate a range of government support services including Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), private Veteran Service Providers (VSPs) and Ex-Service Organisations (ESOs).
It is also home to a new ANZAC Club where members and guests can gather in a friendly social setting, the Karrakatta Club, a café and florist, function spaces and dedicated levels for the use of RSLWA Sub-Branches.
“We know this is a much-needed and highly-anticipated destination for our Veterans. It is a safe and central place for them to come together with mates and loved ones over a meal or drink, a place to access vital health and well-being services and treatments, and a place to belong, be supported and understood,” Mr Aspinall said.
Mr Aspinall also confirmed today RSLWA has progressed plans for regional ‘Veteran Hubs’ to ensure state-wide access to the organisation’s network of care and support services.
“Veteran Central is a major support hub servicing our metro and regionally based Veterans and their families. In addition to this facility, we are working on the delivery of additional hubs in the Perth metropolitan area and regional centres throughout the State to ensure the delivery of accessible, high-level care and support.”
ANZAC House is located at 28 St George’s Terrace, Perth.
ANZAC House Veteran Central services include:
Medical: General Practice, day surgery procedures and specialist consultancies. Allied Health and Wellness programs including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology and a range of other services including skin cancer checks.
Dental: in-house dental clinic offering full range of services.
Mental Health – in-house professional mental health services including initial counselling through to one-to-one psychological support and/or psychiatric support.
Hearing: full range of services to improve hearing outcomes through clinical services and support.
Health Education and Training: health management planning covering everything from nutrition and weight loss, exercise, drug awareness and living with/protecting against diabetes.
Employment Advice and Placement: services to support Veterans transition out of the military and into civilian employment in the government, private and community sectors.
Financial Counselling: advice and support on addressing financial challenges.
Department of Veterans’ Affairs: community liaison and support.
Home Care and Aged Care: in-house services via White Oak (one of WA’s largest providers of home care and aged care).
Features of the seven-floor facility include:
- A commemorative reflection courtyard.
- A fully-maintained concierge on the Ground Floor to direct and assist Veterans and guests.
- A dedicated medical floor providing a range of services from GP appointments through to day surgery services and consulting services by specialist doctors and surgeons. This floor will also include a range of allied health services including physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
- Comprehensive mental health support with the co-location and/or visitations of appropriately
- qualified veteran specialist practitioners, including psychologists and psychiatrists.
- A fully-equipped gymnasium including change rooms.
- Meeting rooms including small and large conferencing facilities.
- Private dining room and reading room.
- Dedicated function spaces (suitable for weddings, corporate events and special-occasion parties) with spectacular river views.
