Perth came alive on Sunday May 25 as more than 40,000 people took to the streets for the 13th annual HBF Run for a Reason—marking the largest turnout in the event’s history and reinforcing its place as one of Western Australia’s most cherished community events.
The event continues to inspire West Australians of all ages and abilities, offering a unique opportunity to pursue personal fitness goals while raising funds for causes close to their hearts.

Participants ran, walked, and wheeled their way through one of three sold-out distances: the Brooks Half Marathon, the Specsavers 12km, or the CommBank 3km. Along the way, they were cheered on by vibrant entertainment and community support that kept spirits high from start to finish.
This year’s fundraising effort has already surpassed $1.9 million, supporting more than 350 local charities. Since its inception in 2010, HBF Run for a Reason has raised over $14 million for health and community organisations across WA.
“It’s incredibly inspiring to see HBF Run for a Reason unite and energise our community, with this year marking the largest turnout in the event’s history,” said Dr Lachlan Henderson, HBF Chief Executive Officer.
“The event celebrates remarkable stories of courage, hope, and resilience, and we’re honoured to support the life-changing work of so many incredible charities making a real difference.”
“This year’s event carried special significance following the recent passing of former West Coast Eagle Adam Selwood, who had registered to run the half marathon in honour of his twin brother, Troy, who passed away in February.”
“The tragic loss of Adam and Troy reminds us of the humanity behind every bib number—each participant is driven by a reason, a memory, or a cause that matters deeply to them,” said Dr Henderson.
Adam’s fundraising target for mental health charity, zero2hero, which started at $10k, has reached an incredible $79,000 and still climbing—the second highest individual fundraising page following behind Tina Ingraham who has raised an amazing $80,700 for MND Association of Western Australia. “Sonny the Superstar” is in third spot raising a wonderful $29,300 for Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Leading the charity fundraising is MND Association of Western Australia, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation, Cancer Council WA, and zero2hero.
