Families from Fremantle and nearby suburbs are invited to join free bike riding events for a wheelie good time!
The first event kicks off with a scenic, guided bike ride across Stirling Bridge on Sunday April 12 from 2–4 pm. This activity aims to improve bike riding skills and confidence for navigating between Fremantle and North Fremantle while the neighbouring Fremantle Traffic Bridge is closed. Riders will also enjoy hearing stories about Fremantle’s rich history along the way.
The fun continues on Saturday May 2, with a Glow Ride along the North Fremantle Heritage Trail. Starting at sunset, families can decorate their bicycles with glow sticks before setting off on a gentle-paced ride that will light up the landscape. Participants will receive a food voucher to use after the ride and can enjoy face painting, music, and other fun activities.
DTMI Director Active Transport Michelle Prior said community events like these help increase riding confidence in a fun, supported way.
The activities are part of the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure’s (DTMI) efforts to encourage more active travel around the area, particularly while the Fremantle Traffic Bridge remains closed.
Michelle also noted that as the weather cools, people can continue to stay active outdoors by planning their journeys and dressing appropriately for the conditions.
