Knife and fork talk with the Dining Divas – a stop in the city

chicken vol-au-vent

OUR chosen venue for lunch in the city happened to be closed on a Monday so we wandered around checking out a few options.

By chance we noticed that the Criterion Hotel offered a $12.50 lunch menu with nine choices to select from.

So the Dining Divas decided to try these options at this well known and long established pub. We chose sausages and mash potato and the chicken vol-au-vent.

Sausages and Mash

The sausage dish consisted of classic creamy mashed potato with traditional gravy sauce served with four beef chipolata sausages, green peas and grilled onion.

Everything was cooked nicely and presented well, a satisfying plate full of comfort food.

The vol-au-vent contained chicken breast and leek tossed in a creamy garlic sauce, surrounded by mixed salad leaves with parmesan slivers and balsamic reduction.

Disappointingly, although the chicken breast was ample and tender there seemed to be an insufficient amount of leek, and the garlic sauce could have been a tad stronger, apart from this the meal was well worth the money.

Two and a half forks.
