George St Café – a lovely brunch spot in Kensington

Belgian waffles with vanilla bean ice cream, warm banana and salted caramel and Smoked Salmon Benedict

THIS month the hot weather has really hit Perth so Dan and I ventured to George Street Café and Patisserie in Kensington.

The décor is an eclectic mix of vintage and retro furniture both inside and out.

It wasn’t too hot the day we went so we chose to enjoy the shaded area out the front of the café.

Dan ordered a cappuccino ($3.80) and I ordered an almond milk chai latte ($4.50).

My chai latte was perfectly creamy and had the right amount of flavour so it wasn’t overpowering.

Dan said this was one of the best coffees he has had in a while.

It was well-bodied and not at all watery.

By the time we got to the café we were quite hungry but we had trouble deciding what to eat.

Belgian waffles with vanilla bean ice cream, warm banana and salted caramel

In the end, Dan chose the Belgian waffles with vanilla bean ice cream, warm banana and salted caramel ($12.95) and I ordered the smoked salmon benedict ($17.95) for myself.

When the waffle came out we loved the presentation with fairy floss on top.

The waffle was delicious with a nice soft texture and not too sweet overall.

The only fault Dan found was the vanilla bean ice cream was slightly icy.

My smoked salmon benedict had a generous amount of salmon and hollandaise sauce which was lovingly slathered on top.

The sauce was delicious and creamy but still had that zing aftertaste which complimented the overall dish.

With the friendly staff, good pricing and delicious coffee Dan and I would recommend coming to George St café for breakfast, brunch or even morning or afternoon tea with a delicious selection of baked goods available on the counter.

Overall we give them four spoons.
