AFTER the weird weather we have had during spring Dan and I ventured out on a nice sunny morning to North Perth to try The Office on Angove for brunch, this month.
I loved the décor with displays of old telephones and typewriters and other vintage and retro office accessories.
It reminded me of the sets from the TV show Mad Men.
The menus were stamped with faxed and original on the pages which I thought was a very cute touch.
We arrived later in the morning and had wonderful service with water being brought to our table straight away in gin bottles, (more Mad Men reminiscence).
For drinks, I ordered a smoothie called the Miss Piggy ($7.50) that had mango, berries, watermelon and strawberries. This was perfectly refreshing for the warm day.
Dan ordered a cappuccino which had dark chocolate flakes on top which was a very delicious touch, but he said the coffee was slightly too watery for his liking.
The service was quick and friendly. For food I ordered the mushroom medley which consisted of potato hash, confit shallots, lemon yoghurt mousse, poached egg and white truffle oil ($19).
Dan ordered the eggs benny ($17) and added the sticky pork ($6.50) which included poached eggs, wilted spinach on potato hash and hollandaise sauce.
My mushroom dish was rich and light and the caramelisation of the onions and the lemon mouse balanced the dish.
The potato hash was very nice and crispy and added some crunch – its only fault was the serving size, as it was quite small compared to what we are used to at other venues.
Dan said his serving size was small too, especially for the price and if he hadn’t added the pork side he would still be hungry.
The flavours were excellent and the sticky pork made a worthwhile addition, especially with the potato hash.
Overall the service was good and our food came out quickly but our main critique was the small serving size and value for money.
We give The Office on Angove 3.5 spoons.
