When we choose a café or restaurant to review, we usually try to fit in a visit to an exhibition or seeing a film, so we are not just ladies that lunch.
Following a visit to the museum to view the Terracotta Warriors exhibition we then headed up to the Cleaver Heritage Café nestled in the treelined shady streets of West Perth. From the all-day menu we chose corn and zucchini fritter stack $24 and fish and chips $22.
The two golden brown generous sized fritters were smooth and creamy inside, flavourful and deliciously morish.
The smashed avo and tomato were similar to a guacamole and just as tasty. Gourmet lettuce leaves and tomato, julienne carrots and beetroot were sprinkled with balsamic vinegar and beetroot hummus was spread on the plate. Topping this off were sweet potato strips cooked to a crunchy texture. This colourful food was served on a mosaic patterned plate and looked absolutely festive.
The fish was very moist and succulent, the light coating of crusty crumbs clinging to the fish was lip-smackingly good. There was a small salad of fresh mixed greens, carrot strips and cherry tomatoes drizzled with a tasty balsamic dressing. Also perched on the plate was a little pot of tangy tartare sauce which tasted homemade. Chips were plentiful and perfectly cooked, crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. They were very addictive.
A thoroughly enjoyable lunch, presented well, and worth every single dollar. The staff were efficient and friendly.
This is a roomy, clean and bright café with indoor and outdoor dining situated in a lovely shady street with many older houses including the Florence Hummerston Cottage Circa 1908. which is next door to the café. Transperth bus 403 and 402 stop outside.
