On our way back from the café in West Perth which we featured in the March issue, we found another situated on Carr Street that piqued our interest. West End Deli is a casual and comfortable local eatery offering a lunch menu (all day available) that is $24 and under with two exceptions.
We chose the Super Grain $17 and Caesar Salad $19.
The super grain contained barley, walnuts, tomato, pickled red cabbage, carrot batons and feta, all of this was tossed in a lemon dressing with just the right amount of tang. Everything was very fresh, the crunchy walnuts and carrot went particularly well with the softer barley, cabbage and tomato. Also, there were mixed salad leaves creating a well-balanced and healthy meal. A poached egg jiggled atop of all that goodness and was cooked well, although having the yolk dribbling onto the grains was a matter of taste. A good meal for the price.
The Caesar salad was adorned with a poached egg, anchovy and shaved parmesan cheese. The cos lettuce was garden fresh and crackled and crunched with every bite. On the request of not wanting bacon, some extra anchovies would have been perfect for extra flavour. The Caesar dressing was so scrummy that this Diva wanted to lick the plate. Well worth the price.
There is indoor and al-fresco dining and this is a popular café which is well worth a visit.
