Australia’s aged care system is undergoing significant reforms aimed at enhancing in-home support services for older Australians. The new Support at Home program is set to replace the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and Home Care Packages (HCP) in July 2025. The goal? Simpler, more flexible care that better meets individual needs.
Understanding the Support at Home Program
The Support at Home program aims to offer a more streamlined system to home care by consolidating tailored support that will adapt to the needs and requirements of Australian seniors. This includes assistance with daily activities, personal care, nursing services, and support for carers.
Proposed Changes to CHSP and HCP
The transition to the Support at Home program involves integrating existing structures:
- CHSP offered entry-level support services, such as domestic assistance and social support.
- Home Care Packages provided four levels of care packages based on assessed needs.
The new system will increase accessibility of in-home aged care services by reducing the paperwork and confusion for applicants, as well as offering greater flexibility with services.
A means tested framework will determine individual contributions with full pensioners having to contribute a small amount, while self-funded retirees will pay more for non-clinical services. Essential medical care such as nursing and occupational therapy stays fully funded by the government.
MYVISTA is already ahead of these changes, ensuring a smooth transition for home care customers. With a strong focus on personalised support, MYVISTA has been adapting services to fit individual needs long before these reforms and continue to make sure customers receive high-quality, uninterrupted care.
