THIS month has been a busy one with the Seniors Week Event Guide included in this paper and the launch of the new website. Check it out at www.haveagone ws.com.au.
Nevertheless I did manage to get our editor, Jen, out of the office as she was keen to try Sophia’s at Akora which is located in the heart of many of the retirement villages in Bentley.
Walking in you are made to feel very welcome and there is a lovely friendly, atmosphere with owner Paul greeting you and inviting you to take a seat. The modern comfortable décor is very pleasant and there is a television to keep you up to date on the news and a selection of newspapers to read.
I ordered a peppermint tea ($4.50) and Jen ordered a latte ($4). I loved how the tea was served on a tray with a turquoise teapot and matching cup and saucer. Jen said her coffee was perfectly creamy and no bitter taste at all.
For brunch, there was a good range of both breakfast and lunch choices that offered value for money. I ordered scrambled eggs on toast ($13) and added mushrooms ($3) and salmon ($3) and Jen ordered the pancakes ($13.50). As we waited, which wasn’t long at all, we saw the chef making the pancake mixture fresh in the kitchen.
My mushrooms were an amazing flavour bomb with garlic. They were crispy and unlike any other mushrooms I’ve had. I would come back just to eat them again. The salmon was cooked pieces and not cold smoked and added another flavour burst complementing the creamy scrambled eggs.
Jen said her pancakes were the lightest and fluffiest ones she’d ever had and the cream, maple syrup and berry compote complementing these perfect pancake morsels. She said she would return to eat these again as they were seriously good.
Overall everything was absolutely delicious. With the lovely service and value for money we give Sophia’s at Akora four spoons.
