YELLO Festival springs into Perth Point Zero

YELLO Festival returns to the State Buildings from Thursday October 8 to Saturday October 17 to revive the season of celebration at Perth Point Zero. Did you know that the State Buildings are the geographical marker to where all distances to Perth are measured? It really is the centre of the city. People are welcome to surrender to a spring sensory adventure. Eat, drink, watch and wonder your way through a series of new-found activations. The 10-day program delivers a bountiful supply of free and ticketed events for all ages.

YELLO Festival highlights include:

• Lone Traveller October 10 | $200pp – Session 1: 3pm – 5pm – Session 2: 5.30pm – 7.30pm – Session 3: 8pm – 10pm 

Close your eyes and be whisked away to a mystery destination for a never-seen-before cocktail experience that will surprise and captivate. Hosted by globe-trotting bartender, Eoin Kenny and cheeky hawker of spice, Dee Tongdee, the tour will immerse travellers in the seductive sights, smells and flavours of bustling Bangkok. Four guests per session – these really are the most exclusive seats in Perth.

• Art of Wine October 11 | 3pm – 5pm | $80pp

Led by Yoko Luscher-Mostert, the owner and creative mind behind vibrant Western Australian wine label Brave New Wine, this masterclass will explore how wine expresses itself – in the bottle and visually on the page. Guests will be invited to taste six deliciously intriguing wines and this thoughtful experience will become the inspiration for their own piece of art. The afternoon will be accompanied by exquisite canapés from Wildflower Head Chef, Matthew Sartori and a music playlist curated by Yoko to spark your creativity.

• Market of Colours October 16 – 17 | From 3pm | Free entry

Enter the visually alluring world of acclaimed musician and nationally revered Western Australian artist, Morgan ‘Mojo’ Joanel. Over two days, experience this incredible artist in the flesh as she brings a new and captivating piece to life in the Long Chim courtyard. The team will be shaking up epic cocktail specials from the pop-up bar and throwing out big bowls of delicious boat noodles for $10, all to the backdrop of buzzy beats from Kester Sappho and DJ Alex. Following the event, Morgan’s fantastic art piece will be auctioned, with all proceeds going to Starlight Children’s Foundation.

• Art Song Dinner October 14 | 6.30pm – 10pm | $280pp

Visit the elegant surrounds of Wildflower to mark the beginning of Kambarang – the season of birth and abundance. For one night only, Yello will welcome internationally acclaimed soprano, Amy Manford, who has recently returned from a two-year starring role on the West End with Andrew Lloyd Weber. Amy will be complemented by the delightful sounds of acclaimed harpist, Yi-Yun Loei. Guests will enjoy exquisite canapés, followed by a six course tasting menu curated for the evening by Wildflower mastermind, Matthew Sartori and matched with wines by Emma Farrelly.

• From Pantera to Pavarotti October 13 | From 6pm – 8pm | $60pp, including six tastings and small bites

Join multi-award winning State Buildings Director of Wine, Emma Farrelly, and Western Australian vocalist, Ali Bodycoat, for a wine masterclass with a melodic twist as they traverse the oddities that weave through music and wine – or is it wine and music? Whichever comes first, experience six deliciously distinctive drops and delve into a fluid world that will surprise and scintillate.

Verdura – October 15 | From 5pm | $85pp, including five courses or $130pp including five courses and matched wines

Enjoy an evening at Post for a night of soulful cooking inspired by an ingredient rooted in the rural traditions of Italy – the vegetable. From the succulent eggplants of Sicily to the fragrant tomatoes of Campania, Italy’s southern regions all offer their own unique produce, which has birthed a captivating culinary culture based on lighter, fresher fare. These vibrant seasonal ingredients lend themselves perfectly to creating a host of imaginative vegetarian dishes, which grace the tables of locals during every meal. For one night only, people are invited to pull up a chair and eat as the Italians do, with Executive Chef Kim Brennan’s Spring vegetarian feast. Enjoy five incredible courses capturing the essence of great Mediterranean cooking – fantastic produce served with stunning simplicity. • YELLO Salon October 17 | 1pm – 4pm | $95pp

Revel in the captivating mastery of iconic Australian fashion illustrator, Pippa McManus as you journey through an elegant afternoon tea menu, bursting with citrus delights from acclaimed pastry chef, Rika Shiina. Guests will have the opportunity to experience an interactive live sketching session with Pippa as she produces a collection of her signature charcoal drawings, complemented by the beautiful sounds of husband, Chris Foster on the grand piano.

• Little People, Big Beats – October 17 | 5.30pm – 7.30pm | $35 per child

Led by official Commander of the Kids, Libby Hammer, get ready for a whole lot of size 5 sneaker grooving at the very first State Buildings Silent Disco. The event will deliver two hours of bops, balloons and popcorn for the little ones…and a serene moment of silence for Mum and Dad!
