Sculpture at Bathers Founder, Creative Patron, and esteemed artist Tony Jones has been honoured with the 2024 State Cultural Treasures Award for his outstanding lifelong contribution to Western Australia’s visual arts.
Tony Jones is a Fremantle-based artist with a career spanning over five decades. He is widely celebrated for his iconic public artworks that capture aspects of local history, including Eliza, which stands in the Swan River, and C.Y. O’Connor, located in the sea at Coogee Beach.
Sculpture at Bathers (S@B6) was founded by Tony Jones in 2013 and has since successfully celebrated the talents of Western Australian sculptors for over a decade. S@B6 returns for its sixth event from April 4 to 21, 2025, at the historic Bathers Beach Art Precinct / Manjaree. This free exhibition promises an unforgettable cultural experience, showcasing the unique sculptures of WA artists.
The major biannual sculpture exhibition has showcased the work of 320 artists from across the State since its inaugural edition, drawing a record audience of 130,000 visitors in its most recent edition, held in 2022.
Aiming to provide continuous support for Tony Jones’s WA sculpture legacy, S@B6 is launching a fundraising campaign to ensure the ongoing support of WA artists and longevity of this significant art exhibition. All donations are tax deductible and can be made through the following link: click here.
“A sculpture show concentrating on works by local West Australian artists is extremely important. I cannot speak highly enough of the success of Sculpture at Bathers in drawing attention to the work of the talented sculptors of WA. I encourage you to support Founder, Tony Jones’ mission for this wonderful endeavour, to make this free and accessible exhibition possible.” – Janet Holmes à Court AC, Exhibition Patron.
