Stories of tradition and triumph

Discover the inspiring stories of Italian migrant women—Nonnas—who journeyed to Western Australia between the early 1900s to 1970s and helped shape its vibrant cultural landscape.

From Nonna with Love: Stories of Tradition and Triumph celebrates the courage and resilience of these women through treasured photos, objects, and memories—revealing how they enriched community life with their work, food, faith, family, and traditions.

At the heart of the exhibition is Nonna’s Table, an immersive installation where family stories come alive through film and shared space, inviting visitors to experience the warmth of home.

Complementing the exhibition is a vibrant line-up of public programs—including cooking demonstrations, passata-making, and storytelling sessions.

Don’t miss the recipe collection along with recipe cards to take home and share the love of food from the Nonnas.

Whether you’re reconnecting with your roots or discovering a piece of WA’s multicultural heritage, From Nonna with Love: Stories of Tradition and Triumph is a heartfelt tribute to WA’s spirit of migration.
