Jenny Davis stars in a Colonial Christmas

For the last seven-years, a volunteer troupe of actors, musicians and technicians give their time to present a play to raise funds for people experiencing homelessness.

IN previous years the play has been an adaptation of Charles Dickens much loved Christmas fable. This year, the tale has travelled across the sea and become, “A Colonial Christmas”.

This play within a play, will take the audiences back to ‘The Golden Years of Australian Radio’.

Christ Church, Claremont, will be transformed into a radio studio in which the Dickens story is at the heart of a colonial experience in a radio play! It tells the story of Christmas 1872, when some convicts working at Government House in Perth are preparing to entertain the Governor with a play based on the then new novel by Charles Dickens that has taken the world by storm.

“A Colonial Christmas” will take the audience of sentimental journey when radio drama was king and was recorded live in front of a studio audience by the radio stars of the day, complete with the sound effects person.

This year’s performance includes that doyenne of stage, screen and radio – Miss Jenny Davis with another celebrated veteran of the Perth stage and airwaves, Miss Davilia O’Connor. Joining them is the debonair and irrepressible, Mr Greg McNeil and last, but not least, returning to the Perth stage by popular demand, the one and only, Mr Bernie Davis.

This stellar list of actors will be complimented by an equally outstanding list of musicians who will provide some of the best Yuletide music which everyone can sing along to. Performers in 2018 include; the Phillips Chorale, directed by the internationally renowned director Marilyn Phillips and a very special appearance by the charming and vivacious songbird, Miss Alinta Carroll.

Narrated by the enigmatic Tony Howes, this is “A Colonial Christmas” not too miss.
