The York Festival is proud to announce the musical return of the Jazz Program to York, over the two weekends of the 2024 York Festival.
This year’s program, curated by Perth International Jazz Festival, will feature an exceptional lineup of talent, including Perth-based guitarist and composer Dan Garner, stunning and soulful vocalist Holli Scott, horn extraordinaire Ricki Malet, and York’s own local treasure, Simon Charles, plus many more, including modern classical group, the Silver Sands Guitar Quartet and a rare performance from The Stromatolites.
York Festival will also host folk songstress Melody Pool, visiting from NSW on her world tour tour of her new album ‘Changing’. Her recent sold out show in Sydney was described by Newcastle Live as “simply unmissable and yet another definitive evolution within Melody’s already masterful career.”
Under the expert guidance of guest curator Dr Mace Francis of PIJF, the program promises a rich and diverse musical experience ranging from traditional mainstream jazz to modern contemporary sounds, blending thoughtful and moody interpretations of jazz standards with modern harmonic elements, described by the technical skill and emotive delivery of the performers. The performances will take place at The Rookery and the Imperial Homestead in York, offering audiences intimate and soul-stirring music in solo, duo, and trio formats.
Doctor Mace Francis expressed his excitement about the upcoming performances, said: “It is a pleasure to be bringing jazz back to York this year. The town and the art form have shared a long history in various iterations. These wonderful artists will bring the town alive with soul-fulfilling live music to accompany the rest of this wonderful arts festival.”
The 2024 York Festival will once again celebrate the music, arts, culture, and community spirit that have made it a beloved event in Western Australia. The inclusion of the Perth International Jazz Festival’s curated program promises to be a highlight, offering festival-goers the chance to experience the magic of live jazz in the picturesque setting of York, from September 20 to 29 in the Spring School Holidays.
All music programming will be included in the Day and Weekend passes, which also gain access to Workshops, Walks & Tours and the wonderful Theatre and Dance events that are taking place during the Festival.
Please note, the Opening Night event, Wundig Wer Wilura in Concert is ticketed separately.
