After a critically acclaimed, sell-out run at the last Fringe World festival, murder mystery production Murder Village: An Improvised Whodunnit returns to the festival for a new 2025 season.
With nearly 200 performances to its name, this hilarious Agatha Christie-style improvised show sees a new mystery made up on the spot each night.
“We staged our first Perth season in 2024, and we were shocked to sell out before 2024 even began” says director David Massingham. “We added extra shows, but we’re thrilled to be back in 2025 for a longer run at The Pleasure Garden.”
Some of the country’s funniest improvisers – including Jason Geary (Thank God You’re Here, Utopia), Amberly Cull (Galati! The Musical), Amanda Buckley (The Side Project, Fires) and Louisa Fitzhardinge (Comma Sutra) – are coming to Perth for the upcoming season, where they’ll be teaming up with Perth’s best home ground improv talent.
“We’re excited to once again give Perth audiences the chance to live inside the world of an Agatha Christie novel they’ve never read,” director David Massingham says. “Murder Village creates an improvised world filled with vicars, amateur dramatic society members, and sleuths with a knack for solving murders.”
Each night’s plot uses the audience’s suggestions as inspiration, ensuring no two shows will be the same. The audience votes for each show’s murder weapon, victim and murderer by secret ballot. As such, mystery lovers get to have their say while still enjoying the chance to try to solve the crime themselves.
