Emotional wins shine at WA Country Music Awards

Two time winner Adele Oliver

The Western Australian country music community came together in celebration at the WA Country Music Awards, delivering a night filled with emotion, first-time wins, and standout achievements in the heart of Boyup Brook.

One of the most moving moments of the evening came from Amberley Maryellen, who was named WACMA Emerging Artist of the Year. Overcome with emotion, Amberley accepted her first WA Country Music Award to thunderous applause, marking a defining milestone in her rising career.

It was also a historic night for husband-and-wife duo Shannon Smith and Helen Townsend, who made history by winning WACMA Male Artist of the Year and WACMA Female Artist of the Year respectively. Their dual victory was one of the most talked-about highlights of the night, celebrating both their individual artistry and shared dedication to country music.

Corey Colum emerged as one of the evening’s biggest winners, taking home three major awards. His song Paradise earned WACMA Traditional or Heritage Song of the Year, while his album Patience claimed both Album of the Year and Video Clip of the Year. Adele Oliver also impressed, securing two awards — Alt Country Song of the Year for Angel and EP of the Year for To Home & Heartbreak.

Other major winners included Imogen Whyte, named WACMA Junior Artist of the Year; Dave Kent and Luke O’Shea, who won Open Songwriter of the Year for Honky Tonk Dreams; Phil Walleystack, who took out Contemporary Country Song of the Year with On the Rock (Ginnunging bo chant); The Little Lord Street Band, awarded Group or Duo of the Year; and Sally Jane, who received the coveted People’s Choice Award.

Boyup Brook Country Music Muster president Colin Hales said the awards once again showcased the strength and diversity of Western Australia’s country music scene.

The WA Country Music Awards continue to shine a spotlight on the artists, songwriters, and performers shaping the sound of country music across the state. This year’s winners have set a high bar for 2027, reinforcing Western Australia’s reputation as a powerhouse of country music talent.
