After enchanting Melbourne audiences with its spectacular Australian debut, the hit Broadway musical ANASTASIA is heading west, opening at Perth’s Crown Theatre this March.
The production has already received glowing reviews from critics and audiences alike, with Time Out Melbourne calling it a “charming theatre experience” and The Music describing it as “a theatrical spectacle that dazzles on every front.”
Inspired by the legend of Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov and the beloved 1997 animated film, ANASTASIA takes audiences on a sweeping journey from the twilight of Imperial Russia to the glamour of 1920s Paris. The story follows a brave young woman named Anya as she sets out to uncover the mystery of her past, joined by a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat.
The Australian cast features Georgina Hopson as Anya, Robert Tripolino as Dmitry, Joshua Robson as Gleb, Rodney Dobson as Vlad, and the much-loved Rhonda Burchmore as Countess Lily. Theatre icon Nancye Hayes AM stars as the Dowager Empress.
They are joined by a talented ensemble including Sophia Bae, Elliot Baker, Billy Bourchier, Nicholas Cunningham, Davis Giotopoulos Moore, Todd Goddard, Stephanie Kurlow, Keian Langdon, Bella Minniti, Nathan Stafford, Alexis Van Maanen, Annie Wilson, Deone Zanotto, and Andrea Zappacosta. The Swings team features Manon Gunderson-Briggs, Iosefa Laga’aia, Nathan Pinnell, and Emma Russell. Local Perth performers will take on the role of Little Anastasia during the season.
Directed by Tony Award winner Darko Tresnjak, the musical features a book by the late Terrence McNally and music and lyrics by the acclaimed team Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, known for their work on Ragtime and Once on This Island. Since its Broadway premiere in 2017, ANASTASIA has won more than 15 major international awards and continues to captivate audiences around the world.
