Western Australian book lovers are gearing up for the 2026 Global Book Crawl, a worldwide celebration of local bookshops that encourages readers to explore, connect, and share their love of books.
From April 20 to 26 readers can pick up a Global Book Crawl Passport from participating stores and plan their route through some of Perth’s most beloved independent bookshops. The initiative aims to strengthen community bonds and highlight the vital role local bookstores play in supporting authors, readers, and publishers.
The Global Book Crawl unites bookshops across Australia — including Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart, the Blue Mountains, Mornington Peninsula, Newcastle, East of Melbourne, South East Queensland, Bellarine & Great Ocean Road, and Alice Springs — as well as cities around the world.
Mark Rubbo, Readings Chairman and Australian organiser of the event, said the response to last year’s inaugural crawl was overwhelming.
“Thousands of Australian readers spent the week discovering the joys of their local bookshops,” he said. “For 2026, we’ve added many more bookshops and states, and again will be joining bookshops around the world to celebrate. We’re also adding some exciting surprises for everyone who joins their crawl.”
The Global Book Crawl promises to be a highlight for readers and retailers alike — a chance to rediscover the magic of local bookshops and the communities that keep them thriving.
