Age is no barrier…

Everyone is invited to come down to Burswood Park on Wednesday 14 November for the premier event of Seniors Week 2018 – Have a Go Day – a Livelighter event.

Organised by the Seniors Recreation Council of WA Inc (SRC) this year celebrates 26 years of the event at Burswood Park.

The theme of ‘age is no barrier’ will give people the opportunity to come and have a go at many activities, visit displays and enjoy the entertainment around the park all for free and specifically targeted for older adults.

Simon Beaumont of 6PR will emcee the opening and Minister for Seniors, Mick Murray, will officially welcome everyone at 10.30am. Following the opening will be the annual walk led by the Over 55 Walking Association.

For people who love to challenge themselves physically there is canoeing on the river, the climbing wall and walking football.

Cycling Without Age will be offering rides around the park on their specially built trishaw.

The West Coast Eagles will have their Speed Kicking Cube and look out for a famous Eagle or two who often pop in for a visit.

There will be a load of entertainment throughout the day including special performances from Terry Bennetts, Wayne Pride, Phil Wilson and the WA Police Pipe Band.

The dancers who participate really show that age is no barrier to having a good time. Get to see ballroom, square, line, tap and belly dancers in action and the Prime Movers will show that exercise to music can be lots of fun.

Budding chefs will not want to miss the Bethanie Bake Off finals or the cooking demonstrations on offer.

There are a variety of health checks available including hearing tests, blood pressure and blood sugar testing.

For those who want to become more savvy with technology, Tech Savvy Seniors will be on hand and there is the opportunity to try Seniors Exergaming and Laser Pistol Shooting.

Have a Go News will be running the hospitality tents which serve people free tea, coffee and water. The chocolate wheel will be spinning at the main tent every half hour with great prizes available. Visitors to the hospitality tent can have a cuppa, relax and socialise.

Channel 7 Perth and 6PR personalities will be in attendance throughout the day and John Burgess and Tod Johnston will be hosting in the Crown Perth tent.

There are a variety of food and drink outlets including the Chicken Treat catering van.

With more than 200 displays, activities and entertainment, there is something for everyone and it’s free!
