A monologue with interruptions

Written by 77-year-old Trevor Todd this new show about an ageing actress coming to Fringe World Perth is one not to miss.

Elspeth is a monologue with interruptions. Elspeth (Jane Sherwood) is a world-weary, ageing actress who’s seen it all, had everything thrown at her and been beaten about by life.

ELSPETH: Once you’re over a certain age, dear, the roles dry up. Before you know it you go from promising bright young thing, to leading lady, to someone’s mum, to “I wonder where she is now” to “thought you was dead!”

As Elspeth delivers her heartfelt monologue, she is joined characters who have featured in her life…some loving…many grasping. All cleverly played by the super-talented Rachel M. Along the way we meet Elspeth’s pushy stage mum, her wastrel husband, her greedy landlady and the perverted Uncle Harry.

Despite of all the misfortunes that have tested Elspeth, can she find the willpower to carry on…or will she use those bricks in her pockets and walk into the lake?

Playing at The Jonesway Theatre, 446 William St, Perth from January 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 February 1. (50 minutes duration.)

Minors can only attend this show at this venue with a parent or legal guardian.
