HI EVERYONE!
I hope you all had the most wonderful and magical Christmas. I certainly did, I think that 2011 was the best Christmas I can remember for a long time and thankfully this year it wasn’t too hot either.
The suggestions I made in previous columns for different ways to entertain for Christmas Day really worked out well for me.
I have grown up children who all have to be in different places on the day, so we had a beautiful Christmas Day breakfast. Very light fare of lovely summer fruits, smoked salmon and homemade pastries (thank you Erin for staying up all night to bake them for us... that’s love!) and of course a bottle of bubbles and Christmas crackers! From there it was onto a big family picnic at Matilda Bay.
After a picnic, I love the idea that you can pack up, go home, relax and put your feet up whilst you to listen to the lovely hum of the dishwasher cleaning up for you.
Now of course 2012 has arrived and brought with it joy and excitement as I anticipate all the possibilities and different things I am determined to bring to fruition this year. Have you made resolutions?
I really love that at this time you can cast your mind back over the previous year, take stock and begin to focus on what it is you would like to achieve in the coming year.
So what is it that you would like to accomplish this year?
I really encourage you to give this some thought and even write a list.
There is a lot of power in writing down what you would like to achieve, acquire or restore, including getting fit and losing weight etc. Keep that list where you can see it numerous times a day and watch it become your reality.
No matter what or when, it is you who is important and how you feel on the inside and outside.
As you already know, eating well is feeling well but looking great makes you feel good too.
Now of course is the perfect time to invest in you.
Have a good look through your wardrobe and see what basics need to be replaced or updated. Any magazine will have a fashion section to give you ideas on new trends and how to work them into your existing wardrobe.
I love the bold block colours which make you feel good and can be worn easily; just choose the colours that appeal to you and suit your colouring. The colours of cobalt blue, coral, jade green and red work well, while most ladies seem to be a bit wary of yellow.
As I have said in previous columns, I think most ladies have a good sense of what suits them, but it does require some confidence to get out of your comfort zone and take advantage of new trends to update your look.
While we are on the subject of getting an update, now is a perfect time also to consider your hairstyle as well.
Sometimes even updating your hairdresser is necessary to achieve a new look and some suggestions on a new cut and colour to replace the same old look.
Again, looking through magazines is a great way to find ideas.
Over the years I have had clients come to me with new fashion ideas found in magazine clippings.
So I suggest that you have a good think about what’s in your wardrobe and choose some pieces to update. This can be achieved with a pair of pants, two tops, a scarf, sun hat, a dress that can be for either daywear or dressed up for evening, summer sandals and a new bag (not black). This update will have a significant impact on the style of your clothes and the way you feel.
But please don’t hesitate to call me for any advice or book an appointment for a consultation as any clothing investment needs to be chosen well and correctly so you spend your money wisely and without regrets.
And, you can be stylish at any age and on any budget with now the perfect time to take advantage of quality pieces at reduced prices.
My experience has been the concern that ladies express about dressing age appropriately, but in doing so wind up making choices that make them look older. I have clients who choose something that I say makes them look too “Nana”. They laugh, but thank me for being honest and guiding them to making choices that they may not have made otherwise.
Fashion is for everyone and there is always something suitable to be found for each of us.
To stress the point, a couple of months ago, I met a most fashionable 75 year old woman who impressed me greatly with her confidence and style. She was on her honeymoon and had just married her very handsome 80 year old boyfriend!
But back to you: you can be stylish at any age without compromising comfort.
Our climate and lifestyle is perfect for a smart, casual dress code, which is so easy to wear.
You do not need to buy the most expensive items, but do try to buy the best you can afford. That includes investing as much as possible in natural fabrics and leather shoes and handbags as they last and the quality is something you will enjoy with every wear. The effort you make in your appearance will make you feel good about yourself and that is very important to do every day.
I hope that you give some thought to having something of a makeover, as they say a change is as good as a holiday!
I wish you all an amazing year ahead.
Have a wonderful month and believe it or not the new winter season range starts appearing in stores next month! And by what I have seen so far, the good news is that the colour story continues for winter which is great for those who were tired of all the black and grey colours that featured last winter.
Stay chic in the heat!
Lots of love
