Important health initiative for Australian women

Every 11 hours an Australian woman will die from ovarian cancer. To mark Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in February, Jean Kittson and 11 Australian women from many walks of life team up with Ovarian Cancer Australia to raise awareness of the disease and help generate vital funds. See page 17 for further details.

Depression is not a normal part of growing older

On page 7 of the February edition find out why depression is not a normal part of life as you age. There is help available and COTA guest speakers can come and speak to your club on a regular basis regarding this issue. The more it is spoken about the easier it is for those affected to reach out.

Regular breast examinations important

Breastlogic offer women a different approach with their computerised breast imaging. This technology is four times more sensitive than human touch and can locate and record any hard masses. The images are stored for future comparison and will help the patient and GP monitor any changes on an ongoing basis. There is no compression or radiation, it is comfortable, painless and just takes 30 minutes. See page 40 to find out more about this new service available for Perth women.

Achilles Tendonitis

Physiotherapist Jemma Aldridge discusses the cause, effect and treatment of Achilles tendonitis. Inflammation of the Achilles tendon can affect people’s day-to-day life as well as their exercising program. See page 40 of the February issue for an in-depth look at this condition.
